UWL recognised for best decarbonisation project in Higher Education sector
The University of West London’s decarbonisation project has been recognised as the best in the higher education sector after scooping a Highly Commended award in the Energy Management Awards Decarbonisation Project 2021 category – led by a leading energy association.
The award from the Energy Managers Association, which represents over 7000 energy management professionals, demonstrates the impressive scale and ambition of the project that will lead to a saving of over 500 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.
The government-funded project was completed earlier this year and included one of the largest installations of ground source heat pumps in London. With more than five million pounds invested across the campus, the work is a major step towards the University’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UWL said:
This award reflects the scale, ambition, and technical sophistication of all the work that has been undertaken to decarbonise our campus. There is still much more to do but this is a big step towards becoming one of the most sustainable universities in the UK."
