UWL student selected as Royal Television Society (RTS) TV Production and Journalism Bursary winner

UWL second year BA Media and Communications student Taylah Stewart was chosen as one of 44 bursary recipients from UK universities, announced this autumn.

Each recipient receives financial support to help them with living costs and expenses along with networking opportunities and free membership of the RTS. In their final year, the RTS pairs them up with an industry expert mentor to support them as they look for work opportunities.
Taylah, who grew up in New Zealand, is interested in a career in television journalism – either as a documentary or news presenter.
The Royal Television Society is a well-known organisation, and I was really keen on accessing mentoring support and getting insight into the industry from people within it,”
she said, adding that the application was quite a big undertaking and took her a month to complete. Her efforts obviously paid off and she has also been selected for support by Apple TV+, which became an RTS bursaries partner this year.
The networking opportunities have already started, with Taylah attending an RTS dinner last week, where she sat next to a senior executive from Apple and Jesse Armstrong, who has written TV shows including Succession and Peep Show.
I got to chat to Jesse, which is a huge deal. It is about bringing together people that wouldn't otherwise probably have the chance to meet. If you can really put yourself out there, there's certainly a lot you can get out of it,”
she said.
