Article body
UWL’s Saturday Club programme offers creative subjects to 13-to-16-year-olds from underrepresented groups, delivered in partnership with local experts exploring relationships between community, wellbeing and nature in west London. The Society and Change curriculum explored food, health and society through modules like ‘Food Justice’, ‘Food as Art’ and ‘Food as Medicine’.
By empowering the young people with practical skills and knowledge, the programme boosts their confidence, broadens their horizons and inspires them to pursue their passions and potential careers, having a lasting positive impact on their personal development and future opportunities.
Outreach Officer Jordan Campbell is a creative outreach practitioner and performance storyteller with extensive experience in developing unique and creative programmes in schools, alternative provisions and cultural institutions. He has initiated a series of bespoke programmes designed to enhance oracy, literacy and confidence among 7-to-16-year-olds, culminating in a final showcase where students tell stories in their own words.
Since January 2023, Jordan has engaged over 2,400 students in workshops and performances, and over 370 students in longer-term projects, including two programmes for young people who were permanently excluded from mainstream education.
Krishna Maroo, UWL’s Outreach Manager, said,
