Wellbeing Team: Robbie Stanton
Body
We offer a range of services for our students to make sure they get the most out of university. We have expert staff working behind the scenes to help you the best that they can. We would love to show off the friendly faces that you will meet using these services!
The Wellbeing team offer loads of help for students, from counselling to disability support – our advisors want to help you in any way they can. We had a chat with Robbie, a Disability Advisor, to find out more about him and his job...
What is your job within the Wellbeing Team?
I am a Wellbeing Advisor, specifically a disability advisor. I work 1-1 with students and offer specialist advice and guidance to make sure they are fully supported throughout their time at UWL.
When should someone reach out to you?
As soon as they can! The sooner you reach out the quicker and sooner we can put support in place for you! Don’t leave it and struggle in silence, you are not alone! We are here to help.
What is the top thing you do in order to give a student the best help possible?
We are a very understanding team; we help students as much as we can, we try our best to understand a situation and if we as a department cannot offer support, we will always point you in the direction of someone that can.
What extra support can you offer students?
We offer support for students to see if they are eligible to receive an Individual Support Plan (ISP). This is a plan that is put in place where students can list their struggles and what they are finding difficult, how they can manage it and what support/adjustments can be made to get the most from their course. We can also point them in the right direction to apply for a DSA or any other support they need.
We also found out a little bit more about Robbie...
What is your favourite film?
It’s a toss-up between the Fast and Furious Franchise and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Why do you #LoveUWL?
I love the support staff, their ability to work together through thick and thin inspires me daily.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself
I have been on a television gameshow before… I obviously didn’t win the big money prize though. I was also supposed to appear on another quiz show, however lockdown happened, so I didn’t get the chance to.
What is your favourite thing about working in the Wellbeing Team?
Definitely its diversity! We are a very diverse team ranging from different backgrounds, cultures, abilities and working experience. This means that we can offer a listening ear from all walks of life and make sure that you get the best support you can from us.
