Ealing Food Lab stars in C5 documentary

Introduction

A food product development centre based at the University of West London in Ealing has featured in Channel 5 documentary looking at the secrets of supermarket food.

The West London Food Innovation Centre usually works with companies to develop new food products but used their expert facilities to test whether TV presenter Stefan Gates could spot a low-fat, low sugar cheesecake against the real thing.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at UWL, said:

Our food lab is working with companies of all sizes to create the innovative new foods of tomorrow and it was great to showcase what we have to offer on national TV.

We combine science and culinary expertise to turn concepts into successful products using our product development kitchen, science lab and sensory evaluation facility.

Across west London there is a thriving food sector and we want to be shaping the future of the industry, as well as training the next generation of food innovators.
