Dua Lipa dedicates Brit Award to UWL professor
Introduction
Singer, Dua Lipa has dedicated her Brit Award to lifelong nurse, campaigner and UWL Professor Dame Elizabeth Anionwu as she calls for more support for frontline NHS workers.
Taking the award for best female solo artist at the Brits last night, the international pop star announced she would be sharing her accolade with Dame Elizabeth – Emeritus Professor of Nursing at UWL.
Celebrating her fellow honouree, Dua Lipa said:
She has spent her stellar nursing career fighting racial injustice, and is a strong advocate for protecting frontline workers.
Dame Elizabeth has spent 40 years in the profession, fighting for more treatment and awareness of Sickle Cell disease, and more recently as a key figure in highlighting the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on BAME communities.
The inspirational mention comes ahead of International Nurses Day, and following Dame Elizabeth’s part in a new online initiative to celebrate the contribution of ethnic minority nurses and midwives.
Following the news, she took to social media to share her delight and joy at the honour, describing herself as “in shock” and thanking Dua Lipa for all of her support for frontline NHS staff.
