Law Careers Fair brings legal firms and other employers in the sector to UWL students

Intro

UWL hosted a Law Careers Fair on Tuesday 31 October for students looking to work in the legal sector. It was a great success as attendees connected with 23 law firms and other employers, charities and organisations as well as UWL’s careers, study support and volunteering teams.

Masters student Avnil gained some helpful insights about the sector from the fair, commenting:

It’s so nice to interact and network with law firms. I’ve been finding out how I can build my CV and my foundation, so I have good opportunities when I graduate.”

Postgraduate LLM student Amhad explained:

It is not easy to approach some law firms when looking for a training contract. It is brilliant that they have come to us, which gives us a push and a confidence in finding a contract.”

Jamal from Stevens & Bolton LLP in Guildford explained that he would have benefited from an event like this when he was at university:

As a student you can research a firm online, but nothing quite beats a conversation with someone who works there.”

UWL alumni Jade James was at the fair encouraging students to volunteer for the West London Equality Centre in Ealing, which provides free legal advice and casework support to the local community.

Volunteering with us enables students to build transferable skills and gain experience in legal areas such as family law, immigration, welfare, benefits and hate crime,”

she said.

As well as employers, organisations offering information on the legal sector to students were also represented including Chambers Student, an online careers guide for aspiring lawyers.

We are a resource to research the profession and build up knowledge of the market. We have detailed reviews of training contracts, practice area guides and loads more,”

Leah from the company explained.

Employers at the Fair included the Metropolitan Police, HM Courts and Tribunal Service, the Competition and Markets Authority, Squire Patton Boggs LLP and Reed Smith.

UWL students can learn about thousands of job opportunities, including part-time, internship, placements, and graduate roles on the Student Hub.
