Top celebrity chef delights diners at Pillars restaurant

Intro

University of West London (UWL) alumni, students, and the local community in Ealing enjoyed a taste of Malaysia during an authentic dining experience prepared by Zamzani Abdul Wahab, one of Malaysia’s most recognised and loved celebrity chefs.

Zamzani, or Chef Zam as he is more popularly known, joined forces with students to deliver the finest cuisine in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The chef flew from Malaysia especially for the exclusive event which took place at the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, which celebrates its 70th birthday this year.

Addressing  the guests, Chef Zam said:

It is an honour and a great privilege to be here at University of West London, my alma mater, cooking for you tonight. I am grateful for the opportunity to do something to say thank you to the College for giving me a scholarship back in 2003 and to showcase the beauty, culture and hospitality of my Malaysian country through its cuisine. It’s a pleasure working with the apprentice chefs here.

The highly anticipated evening sold out before the event, with guests including the Deputy Mayor of Ealing and representatives from Malaysia Airlines, Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Trade Commission who supported the event.

The dishes on offer lived up to the highest standards of taste and service. Those attending could delight in a menu of authentic and fresh Malaysian food, including the mouth-watering coconut rice-based national dish Nasi Lemak Pandan.

Councillor Dr Abdullah Gulaid, Ealing’s Deputy Mayor said:

London Borough of Ealing and the University have long worked together for the benefit of the local community. The food tonight is fantastic. It takes me back to my trip to Malaysia in 1992. Chef Zam came specifically to cater for us tonight and I’m really delighted to be here. I’m really impressed with both the food and the facilities.

Based at UWL’s Ealing site, the Pillars restaurant is The London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism's award-winning training restaurant.

The event took place amidst celebrations of the College’s 70 years of teaching, which culminate on 15th March when the university community and friends come together for an elegant gala evening.
