The University of West London (UWL) is delighted to sponsor this year’s 14th annual Chiswick Book Festival which takes place from 7-14 September at local venues around Chiswick and Ealing including at the University of West London’s William Barry Theatre. The festival brings together top authors and their readers for a week of history, poetry, biography, fiction, thrillers, gardens, food, wine, politics, creative writing, self-help and children’s books and gives readers a chance to attend events featuring an array of authors - all in support of reading-related charities.

Authors taking part include Dame Eileen Atkins, who will talk about her memoir "Will She Do?" which is now out in paperback, and former BBC radio personality, the Reverend Richard Coles who will be discussing his highly successful first novel "Murder Before Evensong." Events for children include bestselling authors Greg James and Chris Smith leading a storytelling session based on their new book "Super Ghost," and author of the "How to Train Your Dragon" series Cressida Cowell introducing her latest book "Which Way to Anywhere."

UWL is sponsoring an event on Friday 9 September featuring Ealing educated, Lord Chris Patten, who will talk about his latest book "The Hong Kong Diaries" and on 13 September it plays host to Ralph Brookfield and Robert Hokum, two of the authors of "Rock’s Diamond Year." Their book is an anthology celebrating the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Ealing Club, where the Rolling Stones first got together and prompted the development of a Thames Valley blues-based club circuit. They will discuss Ealing’s role in the creation of the R&B style and guitar-based rock as we know it today.

We are delighted to be sponsoring the festival again and of course, as home to London College of Music it is great for us to be hosting a discussion on Ealing’s place in rock history,”

says UWL Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Woodman.

Our long-established partnership with the Festival is really important  to us as a way of connecting with our west London community and supporting and promoting a love of culture and particularly books to readers of all ages.”
