Adult Nursing and Nursing Associate Lecturer
College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare

Having completed my studies at UWL from 2013 to 2016, I made the decision to return and share the skills and knowledge acquired since obtaining my qualifications. In 2013, I was fortunate to be selected for a secondment from Wexham Park Hospital, following my tenure as a Health Care Assistant in theatres. This opportunity enabled me to pursue further studies.

Following my qualification, I re-entered the theatre environment with a commitment to mentoring students during their placements and facilitating the development of essential skills for new team members. My experience in theatres spans both the NHS and the private sector, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of healthcare from different perspectives.

Furthermore, my dedication to continuous professional development led me to actively seek out opportunities for self-improvement. Joining The Corporate Education Team at the Gloucester Hospital Trust not only allowed me to refine my communication skills but also provided me with the platform to design educational materials tailored to the specific needs of healthcare professionals. I took on the responsibility of presenting these materials, ensuring that the dissemination of knowledge was both effective and engaging.

In my pursuit of excellence, I have cultivated a profound interest in health promotion, recognising its pivotal role in enhancing overall well-being. The experience gained from working in high-intensity areas has honed my communication skills in nursing, fostering a deep understanding of the importance of clear and empathetic communication in challenging healthcare environments.

As I continue to navigate the dynamic landscape of healthcare, I remain steadfast in my commitment to advancing education, promoting health, and contributing meaningfully to the field. My diverse experiences in both clinical practice and education uniquely position me to make valuable contributions to the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare provision and professional development of future nurses.

Teaching

Since returning to The University of West London in 2023, I have actively engaged in refining my pedagogical abilities, primarily demonstrated through the comprehensive redesign of a Nursing Associate module titled "Introduction to Personal Health and Well-being." In this capacity, I not only contributed to curriculum development but also provided constructive feedback on existing course modules, suggesting enhancements and refinements to optimise learning outcomes.

My commitment to continuous improvement in teaching methodologies is exemplified by my proactive participation in colleagues' lectures and reciprocal invitations extended to them to attend my sessions. This collaborative approach fosters an environment of shared expertise, promoting a holistic and continually evolving student experience.

In the coming year, my academic pursuits will be centred around my drive to get on and then complete the Teaching PGCert, marking a significant milestone in my ongoing commitment to professional development and elevating the quality of education within the university setting.
