Kyprianos Georgiou

Senior Lecturer in Forensic science
School of Human and Social Sciences

I have a BSc (hons) Criminology, MSc (Hons) Forensic Investigation and PhD Forensic Science. My research interests are within the area of fingerprint development and the reaction between fingermark residue, the substrate and the development technique. I am also researching the use of non-destructive techniques for the classification of recycled and novel-plastics based on their content/additives.

During the last few months of his MSc, I volunteered with Cleveland Police – Scientific Support Unit and attended various volume crime scenes. The summers of 2009, 2010 and 2011, I also volunteered with Cyprus Police – CID.

Upon completion of my MSc, I was involved in various projects within Teesside University (3D scanning of footwear impressions, chemical enhancement of fingerprints and enhancement of fingerprints from bags contaminated from decomposing meat).

In September 2021, I completed the 40-hour “Bloodstain Pattern Analysis” course, and I am now incorporating various areas of the training in my research.

I am keen on developing partnerships with law enforcement/forensic providers and other organisations.

Research

My research interests are:

  • Fingermark development from novel plastics

  • Chemical interaction between fingermark residue, surface and development techniques

  • Classification of substances/substrates using analytical techniques

  • Bloodstain pattern analysis

  • Impact of techniques used for the development and recovery of footwear impressions.
