Previously, Liz had a successful portfolio career in the areas of performance, business and education, working as a musical director, performer, teacher, examiner and business owner. As an Associate Professor at UWL, Liz teaches across a variety of popular music-, music management-, and music education-based courses, and she is the Course Leader for the MA Music and Performing Arts Education programme. Liz is also the Partnerships Lead for LCM, where she oversees the quality of the academic provision at all thirteen of LCM’s national and international partnerships.

Her research interests centre on communication in popular music performance, notably through the use of persona, interaction and gesture. Liz's specialisms also include popular music pedagogy and music education. The findings of her doctoral thesis, The Role of Gesture and Non-Verbal Communication in Popular Music Performance and its Application to Curriculum and Pedagogy, have been integrated into the undergraduate popular music performance curriculum at LCM, allowing students the opportunity to develop their performance skills whilst obtaining a thorough academic understanding of this area of study.

As an Associate Professor, Liz lectures on many of LCM’s popular music and music management degree courses, using her vast musical, educational and entrepreneurial skills and experience to teach students at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level.
