Sandra Porter

Vocal Tutor
London College of Music

Sandra Porter has been immersed in chamber music throughout her career. From St John’s Smith Square to Perth Concert Hall and Auditorium di Milano to the Concert Hall Beijing, she has enjoyed performing an extensive range of chamber music repertoire both old and new.

Her formative experiences were at Edinburgh Napier University and at the Royal College of Music. Subsequently, she completed her studies with Dame Felicity Palmer.

In her long-standing recital partnership with Graeme McNaught she continually explores new and varied repertoire, as demonstrated in her 2021 album “Clara” - a recording of the work they commissioned from Sally Beamish and broadcast in 1995, and of lieder by both Schumanns. As BBC Radio 3 artists they broadcast James MacMillan premieres, works by Barber, Thomas Wilson, Satie, Schumann, programmes of Liszt, Bartok, and French Song. Recitals with the guitarist Anne Chaurand went alongside her collaborations with The Chamber Group of Scotland, Sentieri selvaggi, The Telemann Ensemble, and International Baroque Players. Solo engagements took her also to Japan, Thailand, China, and several European countries, at festivals, music clubs, and a host of choral societies.

Sandra’s first operatic roles were in the premiere of Giles Swayne’s Nozze di Cherubino at the Camden Festival, in Columba by Kenneth Leighton with the BBCSSO, and in The Rape of Lucretia at the Aldeburgh Festival. Since then she has worked with numerous companies including English National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Buxton Festival Opera, Iford Opera, English Touring Opera, and in Cork at the Everyman Theatre and Opera House.
