Before developing a career in Higher Education, Selam worked for many years as a Systemic Psychotherapist in various voluntary and statutory services including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). An area of particular interest in her career thus far has been working with refugees and particularly working with unaccompanied refugee children with a specific focus on the impacts of war and displacement trauma.

Research

Main research interest in trauma and specifically the impact of war and migration trauma with specific focus on the delivery of trauma support in emergency contexts of low resource and high traumatic stress.
