Simon Hanna

Simon is a practising professional photographer. After graduating, Simon moved to London and worked in photographic studios and equipment rental outlets, gaining first hand contact with leading professionals and becoming proficient with the vast array of cameras, lighting and grip equipment available to professional photographers.

Simon then moved into photographic assisting and digital operating for prominent advertising photographers, both in the UK and worldwide. It is this experience that gave Simon the breadth of knowledge in creative and technical processes, coupled with professional knowledge of all stages of shoot production.

As a photographer Simon has worked in Lapland, Ethiopia, Guatemala and also the Winter Olympics in Sochi to name a few assignments. He shoots portraits and landscapes on location for editorial, design and advertising clients, as well his multi-awarded personal projects. To add to this, he has experience shooting everything from events in the corporate world, advertising billboards for O2, to celebrities and royalty, all the way through to stills photography on feature films and TV commercials (most recently with Pharrell Williams).

In addition to his photographic skills Simon has also worked professionally as a producer on shoot productions and as a ‘spark’ lighting technician on film sets, he has extensive experience of pitching, budgeting and shoot production and also worked as a location scout and location manager for production companies in the UK.

Simon ensures that equipment and practical knowledge of cameras, lighting and studios in the School is current with today’s photographic industry, ensuring a smooth transition from education to the world of work. This is supported by his delivery of Professional Photographic Practice and in his links with industry.
