Introduction

A vibrant, fifty-piece orchestra, Camerata is one of the leading instrumental ensembles at LCM, directed and coordinated by, organist, composer and Senior Lecturer Simon Rigby. We are supported by an excellent student committee which provides our students with a real-world experience of working in a busy, enthusiastic, and ambitious orchestra.

Our repertoire ranges from Baroque masterpieces to challenging contemporary works by London-based composers.

London College of Music Camerata

In addition to our regular full-concerts, Camerata is also an important contributor to University-wide projects, such as last year's 'Shakespeare 400', and the annual Graduate Summer Showcase (see from 44 mins). We have also given performances at prestigious venues, such as St Olave's Church (Tower) and the Barge-House (Oxo Tower).

We provide essential support to LCM student performers, most particularly through the performance of student-soloist concerti.  We also support LCM student-composers, rehearsing and performing the winning piece of the LCM's annual orchestral composition competition and orchestration competition.

With all this musical activity, the Camerata provides a salient resource for our music technology students, who regularly record our rehearsals and concerts, thereby gaining academic credit for their on-going project work. In addition, we have long-supported LCM students in completing their conducting diplomas.

We meet for rehearsals at St Mary's Church (St Mary's Road, Ealing, W5 5RH) most Monday afternoons during the academic term, from 1pm to 4pm.

The ensemble is composed mainly of current students, but we warmly welcome players from the local community.
