About the event

"A Winter's Tale", a play by William Shakespeare

This production of A Winter's Tale is a reworking of Shakespeare's play in modern day society. Set in fictional London/other, we imagine a world slightly further down the line from where we are; an authoritarian state.

With our right to protest being revoked, with art and creative subjects almost abolished by the government and some dark misogynistic movements on the rise; the play asks the questions, what happens when we stop listening to women? When we don't value their opinion in society anymore? When we don't take care of nature? When art has no value or place in society anymore? What could the alternative look like?

Inspired by the Handmaid's Tale, this production uses projection mapping technology to tell Shakespeare's story of betrayal, love, honesty and friendship. With a Glastonbury Festival thrown in.

In accordance with UWL Guidance for Visitors, we ask that all attendees take a Lateral Flow Test before attending and DO NOT attend if the result is positive. In addition, you are encouraged to wear a face for the duration of this event, but note that exemptions apply. Seating in Lawrence Hall is unreserved.

Photography and videography is not permitted during live performances.
