This accredited course will prepare you to work with a social work student on your first placement. You will develop a practice curriculum for the placement and learn how to manage a placement.

You will also develop the necessary skills to support, mentor and teach the student and learn how to assess their achievement.

You will put these skills into practice by providing a 70-day placement to a social work student. You will then have the opportunity to reflect on and evaluate your practice curriculum as part of your assessment.

  • be a Qualified Social worker with at least 2 years of post-registration experience
  • be registered with Social Work England
  • have the capacity to work with a student during the academic year 2024-2025.

You will also need to sign an agreement to attend at least 80% of the teaching days.

Cost and funding: This course has no fee as it is part of a reciprocal arrangement - see below for more information.

Credits: 30

Assessment method: You will be assessed by presenting a portfolio of evidence, including documents you have been working on with your student throughout the year. You will also be required to produce an essay on an innovative teaching and learning model you have used with your student.
