Students Bethonie Waring and Kolade Shasi came up with the winning pitch out of four pairs of students who worked on advertising campaigns for Orange Business, for a course module which connects students with industry.

They worked on their campaign over the course of seven weeks, starting by visiting the Orange Business offices in Slough, where they were given the brief and met with people from the management team to help them understand the company’s needs.

Bethonie and Kolade’s assignment was a brand-to-brand advertising campaign to encourage companies to choose Orange Business for all their IT needs. It was a targeted at tech company CEOs and revolved around the idea that "Orange will help you sleep well at night." Their pitch involved sleep paraphernalia, a mock sleep app and the pair singing a lullaby they had written.

We were so impressed by the level of work that went into such a 360-marketing campaign that had us all smiling throughout the entire pitch,”

said Katie Bathgate, Head of Marketing for Europe for Orange Business.

It was so interesting to be given a brief directly from industry people rather than by our lecturers. This experience has made me realise I enjoy advertising and am good at it,”

said Bethonie.

It was great to experience the entire journey of dealing with clients in a professional way. We learned so much including how to be flexible, adaptable and take in feedback,”

commented Kolade.

Gail Parminter, Senior Lecturer at LSFMD, said:

Working on a live client brief is an essential part of preparing our students for employment. Bethonie and Kolade did well because they worked hard and had a professional attitude – two attributes which are essential in the world of work - and were noticed by the judges.”
