Lecturer in Forensic Sciences
School of Human and Social Sciences

I was a detective for 30 years in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) at New Scotland Yard before embarking on my current academic adventure.

I served on the Anti-Terrorist Branch, Racial & Violent Crime Directorate, Major Investigation Teams, and the Specialist Crime Directorate Homicide Command at New Scotland Yard where I was involved with the assessment, management and forensic examination of numerous high profile crime scenes and incidents, surveillance, and covert forensics throughout the UK and overseas.

During my police service, I lectured extensively on forensic and terrorism-related subjects to UK police forces and outside agencies including, NHS, Fire and Rescue Services, Security and Intelligence Services, Military, FBI and the UK National Forensic Training Establishment.

I am an accredited Expert for the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the subject of Emergency Preparation and Response and the investigation and examination of nuclear or radiological emergencies, incidents and accidents.

I advise for a number of TV drama programmes and award-winning authors of both crime fiction and non-fiction books on forensic and investigative subjects. I have also appeared in a range of documentary programmes on terrorism, homicide and cold case investigations as a presenter, co-presenter and specialist commentator.
