An experienced and highly motivated police professional with 30 years experience in the Metropolitan Police Service, retiring at the rank of Detective Superintendent.  Specialising in a number of areas including, Serious and Organised Crime, Covert and Undercover Policing, Homicide Investigation, Intelligence, Violent Crime (his Doctoral research related to Youth Violence), Counter Terrorism and Community Policing. An accomplished Investigating Officer he was involved in a number of high-profile investigations including Stephen Lawrence reinvestigation, Michael Menson, Damiola Taylor, Victoria Climbié, Operation Minstead (Investigation into a predatory serial rapist). He was the Senior Investigating Officer for the post event investigation following the London Disorders 2011 and also made a significant contribution to the national and international policing response of the 9/11 and 7/7 terrorist attacks. He has also held senior leadership roles at a Borough Command level. 

His final policing role was as Deputy National Coordinator for Domestic Terrorism, where he contributed to National and International investigations including the murder of Lee Rigby, the Boston Marathon Bombing and the investigation into Pavlo Lapshyn who was subsequently convicted for the racist murder of Mohammed Saleem and the planting of three separate terrorist devices in the West Midlands area.  

As expert in extreme Right and Left Wing related criminality, he represented The Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and ACPO (Now NPCC) at the Supreme Court in respect of the handling, management and retention of sensitive intelligence. Since retiring from the Met in 2015, he has lectured in policing and criminology at a number of universities and has supervised both Master’s and Doctoral students. He continues to mentor and support people from under-represented groups and until 2019 was a trustee at a notable Youth diversion charity.  

In 2016 he was awarded the Queens Police Medal for distinguished services to policing.
