How the University works

One of the greatest challenges of the 21st century is to protect the Earth’s natural environment and resources.

Here at UWL, we’re working hard to meet this challenge and to embed a culture of sustainability across our University.
UWL aspires to be a leader in environmental management and performance. We aim to achieve this by preventing pollution, complying with environmental legislation and striving to continuously improve our environmental performance.
We’ve developed a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy to deliver on the commitment in our Strategic Plan to ‘improve significantly environmental credentials’ by 2018.
Our achievements to date include:
  • Achieving Eco Campus Silver in 2015.
  • Being on target to meet an ambitious carbon reduction of 50% by 2020, based on a 2005 baseline.
  • Making continuous investment in energy monitoring and energy efficiency.
The latest version of the Environmental Policy was approved in February 2018, it demonstrates our commitment to reducing the University's environmental impact.
