London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism sponsors Air League inclusivity event at Westminster

London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism (LGCHT) – part of the University of West London (UWL) - was the main sponsor for an Inclusivity in Aviation reception held at the House of Commons hosted by youth aviation charity Air League.

LGCHT have been working with Air League, the UK’s leading aviation, aerospace and space charity, for over five years. The reception included a series of inspiring talks given by young, diverse employees succeeding in the vibrant aviation sector.

Almost two hundred people attended the prestigious function including UWL aviation lecturers, UWL students and personnel from established aviation companies like British Airways, The British Gliding Association, Lockheed Martin and Virgin Atlantic.

The reception was hosted by Air League chairperson John Steel KC FRAeS and trustee Andy Perkins. The Rt Honourable Mark Garnier OBE welcomed guests.

Several LGCHT aviation students attended the event and were impressed by having the chance to visit the House of Commons for the first time.

Level 6 BSc (Hons) Air Transport Management student Toby Bennett said,

It was a pleasure to attend the Air League Inclusivity Reception at the House of Commons and listen to the inspirational guest speakers, their journeys and the support they've received. Inclusivity is essential, ensuring the best talent from all backgrounds is represented.“

Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of LGCHT James Edmunds, who attended the event along with Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business Development) Dr Suresh Gamlath, commented,

We are delighted to support Air League as the main sponsor for this Inclusivity in Aviation reception. They are a wonderful charity that do so much positive work. We share a vision for unlocking career paths to people from non-traditional backgrounds in a sector which is constantly evolving.”

Level 4 BSc (Hons) Air Transport Management student Ruby Wood added,

The Inclusivity within Aviation event was not only deeply inspiring, but a huge step in the right direction. To me, it is of paramount importance that the aviation industry has a good representation of those from all walks of life. It was amazing getting to network with those in the industry.”

Andy Perkins, a trustee at Air League who organised the prestigious event, said,

We are grateful for the support of the University of West London. They ensure that the next generation of aviation professionals are set up for success whatever aviation career pathway they decide to choose.”

UWL runs several aviation courses and is also home to Heathrow the Journey, a free permanent exhibition about how west London’s iconic airport became the UK’s aviation hub.
