The IEEE is the world’s largest professional organisation with over 410,000 members. The IEEE aims to support advances in technology through building and inspiring a global community of engineers.
When Dr Saeed joined the IEEE, she took the lead for women in engineering, becoming Chair of the UK and Ireland Women in Engineering group.
We supported members with a range of events showcasing the work of woman engineers,”
she explained.
As part of her pitch for election, Nagham focused on how she would continue to bring members together for multidisciplinary discussions and events.
There are lots of societies, communities and affinity groups within IEEE. They can be very specialist and technical, and for me, success is about connecting all these groups and people together,”
she said.
Nagham is also keen to ensure IEEE develops its members, particularly supporting young engineers in reaching their professional goals.
I am really delighted to be taking on this prestigious and important role,”
she added.
Commenting on her election, Professor Philip Cox, Head of the School of Computing and Engineering, said:
We are very proud of Nagham’s success with IEEE – it is particularly inspiring for our students to see what can be achieved through dedication and hard work.
I look forward to attending more thought-provoking workshops and multidisciplinary events held here at UWL in support of her vision.”
